The South Coast is not just a sightseeing trip; it is a direct encounter with the raw power of the North Atlantic. This private journey takes you to a land where waterfalls don’t just flow – they roar. Where beaches aren’t white, but jet-black and fringed with geometric basalt columns.

On this exclusive tour, you won’t just see the landscape through a window. You will feel the glacial mist on your face, hear the crushing waves of Reynisfjara, and touch the ancient ice of Sólheimajökull. We leave the crowds behind and let you experience the drama of Iceland at your own pace.

Why CarBuddy? Your Journey, Defined by Comfort and Story.

You don’t just get dates and facts – you get a local who knows the small stories, the shortcuts, and the best viewpoints when the big groups arrive. It feels more like travelling with a knowledgeable friend than sitting on a tour bus.

Ultimate Comfort

Warm, clean, private vehicle. Door-to-door service from your accommodation. No waiting in the wind, no sharing with strangers. We handle timing, roads and parking – you just enjoy the views, take photos and breathe.

Description

You’ll walk behind the thundering curtain of Seljalandsfoss, feeling the cool glacial spray coat your cheeks in a moment of pure exhilaration. At the foot of Sólheimajökull, you will trace your fingers over ancient blue ice streaked with volcanic ash, standing face-to-face with a silent frozen giant. On the jet-black shores of Reynisfjara, the deep roar of the Atlantic waves colliding with basalt columns creates a soundtrack that resonates in your chest.

Throughout the journey, your private driver-guide is your connection to the land – weaving tales of trolls turned to stone, finding hidden angles for your photos, and adjusting the pace to your mood – so you don’t just “visit the South Coast”, you understand its untamed power.

Your Exclusive Golden Circle Itinerary:
Stories Behind The Sights

Below is what your day can feel like – not just what you will “tick off”. Times are flexible, but the idea stays the same: more time where it matters, and space to actually breathe in each place instead of rushing back to the bus.

Seljalandsfoss – The Waterfall You Can Walk Behind

Don’t just look at the waterfall – step inside it. Follow the path that circles behind the 60-meter cascading curtain. Feel the fresh spray on your skin and the vibration of the water hitting the pool. It is a wet, wild, and completely unforgettable perspective (In winter the path behind the waterfall is closed for safety reasons).

A secret waiting to be discovered. Just a short walk from the crowds lies a narrow crack in the cliff face. Step through the stream into a moss-covered cylinder of rock where the water thunders down from the sky. It feels like entering a fantasy world.

One of the biggest waterfalls in the country, Skógafoss greets you with a wall of white noise and mist. On sunny days, a double rainbow is almost guaranteed. Walk right up to the drop zone to feel its immense power, or climb the stairs for a bird’s-eye view of the coastline.

Witness the battleground of fire and ice. Walk to the edge of this rugged glacier tongue where blue ice is streaked with black volcanic ash from past eruptions. Hearing the ice crack and seeing the lagoon’s icebergs up close puts the scale of nature into perspective.

Ascend to the top of this dramatic promontory. Stand on the edge of the cliffs and look down at the massive rock arch standing in the ocean. To the east, see the black lava sea stacks; to the west, an endless coastline. In summer (May-August), this is the best place to spot the adorable Puffins nesting in the cliffs.

A place of haunting beauty. The rhythmic roar of the Atlantic waves crashing against the jet-black sand is a sound you never forget. Admire the geometric basalt columns that look carved by giants and gaze out at the Reynisdrangar sea stacks – legendary trolls turned to stone by the sun.

Gaze out at the sharp, jagged rock formations rising violently from the ocean. According to Icelandic folklore, these are trolls turned to stone by the sunrise. Seeing them battle the crashing waves is a powerful reminder of nature’s force.

We pause in Iceland’s southernmost village. Resting in the shadow of the Katla volcano, Vík offers a peaceful moment to enjoy local cuisine, visit the iconic hilltop church, and take in the fresh ocean breeze before our scenic drive back to the capital.

Private Golden Circle Tour FAQ: Questions Answered

The tour typically lasts between 10 to 11 hours. Because it is a private tour, we can adjust the pace to your liking, but this duration ensures you see all the major highlights without rushing.

Most natural attractions on the South Coast are free to visit, and all parking fees are included in your private tour price.

Icelandic weather is unpredictable. We recommend dressing in layers with a waterproof jacket and sturdy walking shoes. You will likely get wet from the spray at Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss, so waterproof clothing is highly recommended.

The South Coast is spectacular year-round. Summer offers endless daylight (Midnight Sun), while winter provides beautiful snowy landscapes and a chance to combine the tour with Northern Lights hunting (if booked separately). We operate this tour safely in all seasons.

Absolutely. This is a private tour, so customization is our specialty. If you wish to extend the day, add a unique stop, or combine two tours, please contact us before booking to arrange a custom itinerary and quote.

Yes. This is a private tour, so we adjust the pace to your group. We can shorten walks, add extra photo or bathroom stops, and avoid slippery paths if needed. If you are travelling with young children or seniors, just let us know in advance and we will plan the day with their comfort in mind.

Safety always comes first. We operate in typical Icelandic conditions (wind, rain, snow), but if the roads are closed or the weather makes the tour unsafe, we may need to modify the route, change the departure time or, in rare cases, cancel the tour. If we cancel due to safety or road closures, you will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule, according to our terms and conditions.

Yes, in most cases this is possible. Airport or cruise-port pickup may involve an adjusted schedule and an additional fee compared to standard Reykjavík hotel pickup. If you would like to start or end your Golden Circle tour at KEF Airport or the cruise terminal, please contact us before booking and we will confirm timing and pricing.

We use comfortable, modern vehicles suitable for Icelandic conditions – typically a sedan or minivan for up to 8 guests. All vehicles are regularly serviced, have winter tyres when needed, and plenty of space for luggage and day bags. If you have special requests (extra luggage, child seats), please tell us when booking.

Yes, as long as you follow the safety guidelines. The waves here are powerful and unpredictable („sneaker waves”). Your guide will show you exactly where it is safe to walk so you can enjoy the breathtaking beauty without any risk.

If you booked directly with CarBuddy (our website, email, or via our team):

  • 48+ hours before your tour starts
You can cancel in writing (for example by email to contact@carbuddy.is).
We refund the amount you paid to CarBuddy minus non-refundable payment and banking fees (card and currency conversion fees), currently around 3% of the total.

  • Less than 48 hours before your tour
The full amount is charged (100% cancellation fee), as your vehicle and driver have been reserved just for you.

All cancellations must be sent in writing and confirmed by us in writing to be valid.

If CarBuddy has to cancel your tour because of weather, road conditions or safety/operational reasons, you can either:

  • move your booking to another suitable date/service (if available), or
