No! Most tours are perfectly suitable for complete beginners. The horses are gentle and follow the leader. The guides will teach you the basics before you start. If you are an experienced rider, let the guides know – they often split the group so advanced riders can go faster.

Yes. Although Icelandic horses are very strong, for the welfare of the animals, there is usually a weight limit of around 110 kg (240 lbs).

Wear comfortable pants (leggings or softshell trousers are great; stiff jeans can be uncomfortable). Wear sturdy shoes. The stables provide helmets, rubber boots, and warm/rain overalls to put over your clothes, so you won’t get dirty.

Yes, this is a great family activity. The age limit is 10 years old.

Yes, pickup is available from major hotels and designated Bus Stops in Reykjavík. The stables are located just outside the city, so the transfer is short (approx. 20 mins).
