This private tour turns a classic route into your personal story: no rushing, no crowded buses, no shouting over a microphone. From the moment we pick you up, you travel in a comfortable private vehicle with a local driver-guide who reads the weather, the crowds, and your energy – and adjusts the day for you in real time.
Why CarBuddy? Your Journey, Defined by Comfort and Story.

Your Local Storyteller
You don’t just get dates and facts – you get a local who knows the small stories, the shortcuts, and the best viewpoints when the big groups arrive. It feels more like travelling with a knowledgeable friend than sitting on a tour bus.
Ultimate Comfort
Warm, clean, private vehicle. Door-to-door service from your accommodation. No waiting in the wind, no sharing with strangers. We handle timing, roads and parking – you just enjoy the views, take photos and breathe.
Description
You’ll step into the rift valley at Þingvellir, feeling crisp air on your face as you literally walk between the North American and Eurasian plates. In the geothermal fields of Haukadalur, you’ll smell the sulfur in the steam and hear Strokkur building tension seconds before it explodes skyward. At Gullfoss, the deep roar of glacial water fills your chest while mist brushes your skin and rainbows hang in the air.
Throughout the day, your driver-guide is right there – sharing stories, small legends, and practical tips – so you don’t just “see the Golden Circle”, you actually feel why people fall in love with this place.

Your Exclusive Golden Circle Itinerary:
Stories Behind The Sights
Below is what your day can feel like – not just what you will “tick off”. Times are flexible, but the idea stays the same: more time where it matters, and space to actually breathe in each place instead of rushing back to the bus.
Thingvellir National Park – A Walk Between Continents
At Þingvellir, you don’t just “visit a UNESCO site” – you literally walk between continents. As you step onto the path, the air feels crisp and clear, and dark lava walls rise on both sides. Your guide shows you where the North American plate pulls away from Eurasia and invites you to pause with one foot on each side. This is where Iceland’s first parliament met under the open sky more than a thousand years ago. You hear the distant sound of Öxarárfoss, see the small church in the distance, and realise this valley holds both raw geology and quiet human history in the same breath.
Öxarárfoss Waterfall – The Hidden Gem Of The Rift
This waterfall, hidden in the heart of Þingvellir, is often missed by larger tours. The river Öxará tumbles down black lava cliffs, its white spray catching the light. Surrounded by moss and stone, it feels both gentle and powerful. The path leads you close enough to hear its constant roar – a reminder of Iceland’s endless water.
A Small Church in a Vast Landscape
A small wooden church with a pointed steeple, standing quietly among the fields of Þingvellir. It has been rebuilt over centuries, yet it keeps its simple grace. Next to it lie old turf houses, once homes of priests. The place feels still, humble, and full of history – a touch of peace in the wide valley.
Haukadalur Geothermal Area – Smell The Fire Beneath The Ice
As you enter the geothermal field, you first feel warmth rising from the ground. Steam drifts across the path, carrying that distinct, egg-like smell of sulfur – a sign that fire still moves under Iceland’s surface. Mud pots bubble, vents hiss, and the earth seems to breathe.
Strokkur Geyser – The Thrill Of The Eruption
You hear Strokkur gurgling, see the pool swell and breathe as if something underneath is pushing up. Then, just before the eruption, there is one second of complete silence. The water domes into an unreal blue bubble and explodes up to the sky, sending hot spray into the cold air. You can feel the excitement in the crowd, but in that moment it’s just you and one of Iceland’s most famous geysers doing exactly what it does best.
The Great Geysir –The Sleeping Giant That Named All Geysers
Great Geysir rarely erupts today, but this quiet pool is the reason every geyser in the world carries its name. Even at rest, it feels like a sleeping giant – a reminder of how long people have been fascinated by Iceland’s raw energy.
Gullfoss Waterfall – Feel The Mist And The Might
You hear Gullfoss before you see it – a deep, steady roar that grows louder as you walk towards the edge of the canyon. Then the view opens and millions of litres of glacial water crash down in two wide steps into a dark gorge. On sunny days, fine mist floats up and paints bright rainbows across the falls. In winter, ice and snow frame the waterfall and the air feels sharp and clean. Your guide gives you time to explore the viewpoints at your own pace, to take photos and to simply stand there, letting the sound drown out everything else in your head.
Keriđ Volcanic Crater – Breathtaking Colors
Kerið looks almost unreal at first glance: deep red volcanic rock wrapped around a still, blue lake. As you walk the rim or follow the path down towards the water, the colours shift with the light – rusty reds, oranges, dark greens and turquoise. On calm days, the surface mirrors the sky, creating photos that look like paintings.
Faxi Waterfall – A Tranquil Oasis Away From The Rush (Plus Version)
(Included in the Plus Version)
Faxi, also known as Vatnsleysufoss, is a wide, wonderfully tranquil waterfall. Often overlooked by the main tourist paths, it’s the perfect spot to slow down and hear the quiet sounds of the Icelandic countryside. This seldom-visited location, complete with a built-in fish ladder to help migrating salmon, offers a peaceful visit and an excellent, unhurried photo opportunity.
Friđheimar Greenhouse – Lunch Among The Tomatoes (Plus Version)
(Optional Stop – Available in the Plus Version)
In the Plus version, you can choose to stop at Friðheimar – a warm, glass-walled greenhouse glowing against the often grey Icelandic sky. Inside, rows of tomato plants climb towards the ceiling while you sit at your table, tasting fresh soup and bread made just metres from where the tomatoes grow. It’s a cosy, very “only in Iceland” experience. Your driver handles the timing and logistics; advance reservations (daily from 11:30–16:00) are strongly recommended and lunch is paid on site.
Secret Lagoon - Gamla Laugið – Authentic, Rustic Relaxation (Plus Version)
(Optional Stop – Available in Plus Version)
Conclude your journey with an authentic geothermal dip. Surrounded by steaming vents and untouched nature, the Secret Lagoon is one of Iceland’s oldest pools (dating back to 1891). This is a rustic experience that allows you to feel the warm water against the cool air, avoiding the crowds of larger, commercial spas. Duration is about 1 hour. Reservations are highly recommended, and the admission ticket is not included. Your driver will ensure seamless timing.

Private Golden Circle Tour FAQ: Questions Answered
What is the total duration of the Golden Circle tour?
Our Private Golden Circle tour usually takes 6 hours, and the Plus Version is approximately 8–9 hours. This allows us to comfortably include all the extra stops like Faxi and Secret Lagoon / Friðheimar without rushing. The biggest advantage is flexibility; your driver-guide adjusts the pace in real-time to maximize your experience, unlike rigid bus schedules.
Are the entrance fees to attractions visited during the Golden Circle Tour included in the price?
Most natural attractions on the Golden Circle are free to visit, and all parking fees are included in your private tour price. Please note: Entrance fees for optional stops (such as the Secret Lagoon) and all meals are excluded.
What should I wear or bring for the Private Golden Circle Tour?
Layers are key! Bring waterproof outer layers, sturdy hiking shoes, and your camera. We recommend bringing a swimsuit if you plan to visit a lagoon (optional stop in Plus Version).
What is the best time of year to take the Private Golden Circle Tour?
The Golden Circle is spectacular year-round. Summer offers endless daylight (Midnight Sun), while winter provides beautiful snowy landscapes and a chance to combine the tour with Northern Lights hunting (if booked separately). We operate this tour safely in all seasons.
Can we customize the Private Golden Circle Tour and add extra time or stops?
Absolutely. This is a private tour, so customization is our specialty. If you wish to extend the day, add a unique stop, or combine two tours, please contact us before booking to arrange a custom itinerary and quote.
Is the Private Golden Circle Tour suitable for guests traveling with children and seniors?
Yes. This is a private tour, so we adjust the pace to your group. We can shorten walks, add extra photo or bathroom stops, and avoid slippery paths if needed. If you are travelling with young children or seniors, just let us know in advance and we will plan the day with their comfort in mind.
What happens if the weather conditions are really bad during the scheduled Golden Circle Tour?
Safety always comes first. We operate in typical Icelandic conditions (wind, rain, snow), but if the roads are closed or the weather makes the tour unsafe, we may need to modify the route, change the departure time or, in rare cases, cancel the tour. If we cancel due to safety or road closures, you will receive a full refund or the option to reschedule, according to our terms and conditions.
Can you pick us up from KEF airport or the cruise port to start the Golden Circle Tour?
Yes, in most cases this is possible. Airport or cruise-port pickup may involve an adjusted schedule and an additional fee compared to standard Reykjavík hotel pickup. If you would like to start or end your Golden Circle tour at KEF Airport or the cruise terminal, please contact us before booking and we will confirm timing and pricing.
What kind of vehicle will we be traveling in for the Private Golden Circle Tour?
We use comfortable, modern vehicles suitable for Icelandic conditions – typically a sedan or minivan for up to 8 guests. All vehicles are regularly serviced, have winter tyres when needed, and plenty of space for luggage and day bags. If you have special requests (extra luggage, child seats), please tell us when booking.
Can we add the Secret Lagoon or Friðheimar farm as an optional stop on this Golden Circle Tour?
Yes. In the Plus version of the tour we can include a stop at Secret Lagoon or Friðheimar, depending on availability. Entrance tickets or meals are not included in the tour price and must be paid separately. We are happy to help you with the timing and reservations if needed.
